The Solution:

ICP Inspections Reduce Risk

Reasons for an Inspection:

1. An ICP inspection ensures proper installation of the lightning protection system according to current national safety standards. This should occur as new buildings are built or as existing buildings are remodeled and should be done by an independent inspector who is not affiliated with the installer of the lightning protection system to eliminate any conflict of interest.

  • Standards compliance
    • NFPA-780
    • NFPA-70
    • LPI-175
    • UL-96
  • Independent from installer
  • New construction
  • Remodels
  • Mature construction

2. An ICP inspection detects damage to the lightning protection system and helps monitor deterioration of system components over time. This allows repairs to be made before the building is at risk to lightning damage. This should be part of a regular maintenance program for existing buildings.

How often is an inspection needed?

A complete, in-depth inspection should be completed every 3 to 5 years. This comprehensive inspection should include a visual inspection along with tests to verify the integrity of concealed cables, determine proper equipotential bonding, and measure ground resistance of grounding electrode terminations. Data from these tests allow performance of the system to be benchmarked and tracked over time to know when end-of-life has been reached and replacement should be made.

  • Measurement Data
  • Bonding
  • Ground Resistance
  • Benchmarking
